I cover breaking stories around the Bay Area, often going live at a moment&#8217;s notice.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, I was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/people\/1101050442\/raquel-maria-dillon\">reporter and editor for NPR<\/a>, where I covered Elon Musk&#8217;s rollercoaster deal to acquire Twitter. Nov. 6, 2007<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p>I used to hold down the LA desk in the evenings, churning out wire copy. When I could escape the confines of the bureau, I\u00a0shot wildfires and mudslides, produced at\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/wordpress\/?p=203\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sundance Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0and dreamed up lifestyle and business story ideas. Finally, AP&#8217;s broadcast unit realized I\u00a0had to be set loose and I\u00a0soon made the leap to being a full-time Video Journalist.<\/p>\n<p>My\u00a0first love was radio.\u00a0I\u00a0worked as a producer for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Public Radio<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kgoam810.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news\/talk commercial stations<\/a>, and reported for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqed.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stations<\/a>.\u00a0My favorite local public radio newsroom was\u00a0<a title=\"Granite State\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhpr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Hampshire Public Radio<\/a>, where\u00a0I often freelanced for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/wordpress\/?cat=10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR\u2019s newsmagazines<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/wordpress\/?p=161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On the Media<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pri.org\/theworld\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The World<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.studio360.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studio 360<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/marketplace.publicradio.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marketplace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1348\" style=\"width: 145px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1348\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1348\" src=\"http:\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Raquel-NHPR.jpg\" alt=\"NHPR studio shot\" width=\"145\" height=\"112\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1348\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raquel Maria Dillon behind the mic in the studio at New Hampshire Public Radio, 2004.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As a student at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/journalism.berkeley.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UC Berkeley<\/a>, I produced a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/?p=903\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">half-hour news magazine about religion<\/a>\u00a0that won a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cdn.emmys.tv\/foundation\/collegetvawards.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2007 Student Emmy<\/a>,\u00a0freelanced short, non-narrated features for Current TV, and practiced my <a href=\"http:\/\/raquelmariadillon.com\/?p=1065\">stand-ups<\/a>\u00a0(all while working part-time at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=1&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kgoam810.com%2F&amp;ei=xYJ4SsflH4e9lAe2_ISZBQ&amp;rct=j&amp;q=kgo+radio&amp;usg=AFQjCNHbgpAEh1b7eBQITWVLwAmYMLbAWg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KGO Radio<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santa Rosa Press Democrat<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>I will always get excited about breaking news, but the stories I&#8217;m drawn to most are about health and healthcare, education, scientific research, climate and natural resource issues, values and emotions. I continue to develop as a reporter and storyteller through training opportunities like the <a title=\"NPPA\" href=\"https:\/\/nppa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Press Photographer Association<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0<a title=\"NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop\" href=\"https:\/\/nppa.org\/training\/advanced-storytelling-workshop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advanced Storytelling Workshop<\/a>, the <a title=\"IJNR\" href=\"http:\/\/ijnr.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institutes for Journalism and Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0fellowships, and SoundVision Productions&#8217;\u00a0<a title=\"Science Literacy Project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scienceliteracyproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science literacy workshop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up on a New Jersey cul-de-sac and now live in Oakland, California.
