I’m a news reporter for KCBS News<\/a>, the CBS all-news radio station in San Francisco. I cover breaking stories around the Bay Area, often going live at a moment’s notice.<\/p>\n

Previously, I was a reporter and editor for NPR<\/a>, where I covered Elon Musk’s rollercoaster deal to acquire Twitter. I was also a Jill-of-all-trades at KQED, starting as an editor and eventually doing nearly every job in the newsroom, from reporter to host, editor to producer, plus a couple other random stints of editing podcasts, running camera, and producing a weekly TV show. That’s the theme of my career: stepping up to fill the needs of the newsroom in whatever medium.<\/strong> I believe my core skills — writing, and understanding what makes a story, and talking to people to earn their trust — have made me a valued contributor wherever I work.<\/p>\n

As a video journalist for the Associated Press<\/a>, I covered breaking news across Southern California and the West for video and the wire<\/a>, while dreaming up original story ideas and\u00a0collaborating with print reporters on cross-platform packages.<\/p>\n

I used to hold down the LA desk in the evenings, churning out wire copy. When I could escape the confines of the bureau, I\u00a0shot wildfires and mudslides, produced at\u00a0the\u00a0Sundance Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0and dreamed up lifestyle and business story ideas. Finally, AP’s broadcast unit realized I\u00a0had to be set loose and I\u00a0soon made the leap to being a full-time Video Journalist.<\/p>\n

My\u00a0first love was radio.\u00a0I\u00a0worked as a producer for\u00a0National Public Radio<\/a>,\u00a0news\/talk commercial stations<\/a>, and reported for\u00a0local<\/a>\u00a0stations<\/a>.\u00a0My favorite local public radio newsroom was\u00a0New Hampshire Public Radio<\/a>, where\u00a0I often freelanced for\u00a0NPR\u2019s newsmagazines<\/a>,\u00a0On the Media<\/a>,\u00a0The World<\/a>,\u00a0Studio 360<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Marketplace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a student at\u00a0UC Berkeley<\/a>, I produced a\u00a0half-hour news magazine about religion<\/a>\u00a0that won a\u00a02007 Student Emmy<\/a>,\u00a0freelanced short, non-narrated features for Current TV, and practiced my stand-ups<\/a>\u00a0(all while working part-time at\u00a0KGO Radio<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Santa Rosa Press Democrat<\/a>).<\/p>\n

I will always get excited about breaking news, but the stories I’m drawn to most are about health and healthcare, education, scientific research, climate and natural resource issues, values and emotions. I continue to develop as a reporter and storyteller through training opportunities like the National Press Photographer Association<\/a>‘s\u00a0Advanced Storytelling Workshop<\/a>, the Institutes for Journalism and Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0fellowships, and SoundVision Productions’\u00a0science literacy workshop<\/a>.<\/p>\n
