My friend Charlotte brought me on board as a video editor and producer. This was back when people still watched horizontal video on Facebook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wrote scripts and edited videos, managed freelancers, wrote a stylebook, copy edited and fact checked, cleared archive material, and pitched stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This one about the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/timeline.com\/port-chicago-disaster-wii-navy-racism-segregati-4251f69dcc5c\" target=\"_blank\">Port Chicago disaster<\/a> was my favorite, because it was my own pitch and I got to write the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/timeline.com\/this-explosion-killed-hundreds-of-black-sailors-and-eventually-helped-desegregate-the-u-s-military-e38c8c9e01ee\" target=\"_blank\">text too<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Port Chicago for Timeline.com\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hGsT0gdvX9I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember having a lively discussion with the editor of this piece about <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/timeline.com\/puerto-rico-women-birth-control-video-history-d9f9e441fcfd\" target=\"_blank\">testing the Pill in Puerto Rico<\/a> about whether his first edit was too salacious for this topic. Sadly, many of these videos were taken down and sold to an educational publisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R.I.P.
